The New Prudishness
Nude photography is currently experiencing a crisis. Social media platforms, especially Instagram and Facebook, are increasingly restrictive in their policies on showing nudity, and the female body is becoming more taboo. The new prudishness is on the rise and is leaving nude photographers and artists at a loss.
This is not just about the mere representation of nudity, but also about the art form of nude photography. It is increasingly being lumped together with pornography. However, there is a clear and significant difference between nude and erotic photography, which is not recognized on social media platforms.
The causes are manifold. One factor may certainly be the #metoo movement, which has uncovered abuses in the film industry (rightly so). However, the abuse of power by individuals has nothing to do with nude photography as an art form.
There are numerous artists who have devoted themselves to nude photography and present it in an aesthetically challenging and respectful manner. In this form of art, there is no abuse of persons who are dependent on others. In the best case - as with me - the models are seen as equal partners who create unique photos with me.
Social media platforms with their opaque rules and sometimes inexplicable sanctions also contribute significantly to the problem. They not only prohibit obviously suggestive content, but also sophisticated nude photography. This gives the impression that the female body is being surrounded by a chastity belt and that nudity is being completely banished from the public sphere. It is noteworthy that these restrictions are often introduced by American companies that have advanced technologies such as facial recognition and precise user behavior tracking, but seem unable to introduce effective age verification so that users can decide for themselves whether they want to see nude photos or not.
It can be seen as questionable that the USA is considered the home of the world's largest pornography industry, but at the same time considers nipples and other forms of nudity on social media to be inappropriate and unacceptable. This apparent hypocrisy can rightly be seen as bigoted.
As a nude photographer, I currently have limited options to make my work accessible to a broad audience. While censored images are still tolerated on social media, these platforms ultimately decide at their own discretion what is deemed compliant and what is not. For this reason, I have been relying on my website or Patreon again for some time now. People who like my work can follow me on Patreon and see my latest work there without censorship.

Die Aktfotografie erlebt derzeit eine Krise. Soziale Medien, allen voran Instagram und Facebook, verbieten immer restriktiver das Zeigen von Nacktheit und auch der weibliche Körper wird zunehmend tabuisiert. Die neue Prüderie ist im Vormarsch und lässt Aktfotografen und Aktkünstler ratlos zurück.
Dabei geht es nicht nur um die bloße Darstellung von Nacktheit, sondern auch um die Kunstform der Aktfotografie. Diese wird zunehmend in die gleiche Schublade gesteckt wie Pornografie. Dabei gibt es einen klaren und haushohen Unterschied zwischen Akt- und Erotikfotografie, der auf den sozialen Medien jedoch nicht anerkannt wird.
Die Ursachen sind vielfältig. Ein Faktor mag sicherlich die #metoo-Bewegung sein, die Missstände in der Filmindustrie aufgedeckt hat ( durchaus zu recht ). Jedoch hat der Machtmissbrauch von Einzelnen in keiner Weise etwas mit der Aktfotografie als Kunstform zu tun. Es gibt zahlreiche Künstler, die sich der Aktfotografie verschrieben haben und diese ästhetisch anspruchsvoll und respektvoll darstellen. In dieser Form der Kunst gibt es keinen Missbrauch von Personen, die von anderen abhängig sind. Im besten Fall - so wie bei mir - werden die Models als gleichberechtigte Partnerinnen angesehen, die mit mir einzigartige Fotos erstellen.
Die sozialen Medien mit ihren undurchsichtigen Regeln und teilweise nicht nachvollziehbaren Sanktionen tragen ebenfalls maßgeblich dazu bei. Sie verbieten nicht nur offensichtlich anzügliche Inhalte, sondern auch anspruchsvolle Aktfotografie. Dies erweckt den Eindruck, als ob man den weiblichen Körper mit einem Keuschheitsgürtel umgeben und Nacktheit vollständig aus dem öffentlichen Raum verbannen wolle. Es ist bemerkenswert, dass diese Einschränkungen oft von amerikanischen Unternehmen eingeführt werden, die über fortschrittliche Technologien wie Gesichtserkennung und präzises Nutzerverhalten-Tracking verfügen, aber nicht in der Lage zu sein scheinen, einen effektiven Altersnachweis einzuführen, damit die Nutzer selbst entscheiden können, ob sie Aktfotos sehen möchten oder nicht.
Es kann als fragwürdig angesehen werden, dass die USA als Heimat der größten Pornoindustrie der Welt gilt, aber gleichzeitig Nippel und andere Formen der Nacktheit auf sozialen Medien als unangemessen und unzulässig betrachtet. Diese scheinbare Doppelmoral kann zu Recht als bigott empfunden werden.
Mir als Aktfotograf stehen derzeit nur begrenzte Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung, um meine Werke einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Während zensierte Bilder auf sozialen Medien noch geduldet werden, entscheiden diese Plattformen letztendlich nach eigenem Ermessen, was als regelkonform gilt und was nicht. Aus diesem Grund setze ich seit einiger Zeit wieder auf meine Webseite oder auf Patreon. Leute, denen meine Arbeit gefällt, können mir auf Patreon folgen und sehen dort die neuesten Arbeiten von mir ohne Zensur.
